yada yada

Silences make the real conversation between friends, not the saying but the never needing to say is what counts

Greetings friends. It has been a dreadfully long time since i have put finger to keyboard and blogged anything blog worthy. So much has happened since the end of semester. We have had friends leave us for holidays, we have had that massive coral bay trip and many other outings that we have gone on.

So we happened to be at Koorong the other day and gosh, the amount of books that seem to be on the must read list was astounding. I do urge those of you who are still in perth to go to koorong and have a look about, not only will you be able to find great gifts to buy for friends and family during this festive season, i promise that you would find a good read for yourself.

As most of our leaders have emphasized during cell, it is imperative that we continue to read the word during the holidays. Man, like last's weeks word by stan really impacted me as i realised how little i knew about the bible. Too true what he said about how dangerous it was to have our foundation or knowledge about spiritual truths based on what we hear from people. Totally made me want to read the bible more. For those of you who missed out due to being away, the message was pretty much why knowing the word was so important and a few verses were give on issues such as God's character, our purpose on Earth and the consequence of sin. Today's sermon makes it even more clear why we need to know the word, so that we can "yada" God. I shall stop there.

Anyways, i do hope Jia li, linzie, Anh, lin and lijin are holding up well. Us kiwis in perth are surely missing all of you. For the kids in singapore, as Eunice has said, we will definitely catch up for food and coffee. A bit of an update, im feeling the effects of too much BBQ food and my throat feels like the Gobi desert. I think we can learn from yesterday's BBQ not to ever buy too much meat. As the iconic George Bush puts it, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, wait a minute, fool me once, you can't fool me again.

Alrite friends, apparently we are heading down to Swan Valley on thursday, more information to come, till then, ill be missing you.

XOXO

holidays

HELLO HELLO...

woohoo!! 1st wk of exams have come n gone.. fast eh.. hehe.. how has your holidays been?? for those of you back home, i'm sure u're enjoying yourself alot.. hehe. for those of us here, some of us went to coral bay for the week.. and it was awesome. look up pictures in facebook. heh.. ohoh.. big news!!!! jiali is on facebook!!!! hahaha.. like finally... =P

its been so long since i've heard from alot of u guys.. the up north trip really cut me away from all contact in the outside world.. but you know, it was so awesome.. once again, i was reminded of God's wonderful creation.. its really something you can't describe.. but it really reflects God's wonderful creation skills, and His mighty plan for the world. how he crafted everything into His perfect plan =D... this is my 3rd time back to coral bay.. and you know, some ppl are asking, why go there so many times.. doesnt it get boring? but each time i go, i see new things, new things that God has created, have new experiences with God's creations.. its amazing.. and most importantly, it was a great opportunity to take time off to spend with God..

i know u guys are probably really busy with all your activities, back home or in perth or even on a holiday, but in the midst of all these, i do urge u guys to remember to spend time with our daddy God yea.. take this opportunity with no exams to study for, no assignments to rush to hand in, lets all spend extra time with God k??? rmb.. seek God first k?? :D:D:D

kk i shall end this short post here. hehe. .service tmr.. we'll update more when we get the time k?? n yea.. look out for kiwi gatherings k?? hehehe... in perth n in singapore hehe.. take care guys!!!

i know why the caged bird sings

I will not forsake the colours that you bring

Hey kiwis, it seems like it has been a time and a half since i put finger to keyboard and blogged a post. Well, our cell's "only" helper in the words of Mother Kiwi has left for guangzhou. Apparently, that is some province in china near Hongkong. Rumor has it that people from guaugzhou eat anything. Anyways, Jia li, if you are still bothering to read this, we miss you dearly. Kinda like how i miss the reid library, studying, waking up early for exams etc etc, you get the picture.

Honestly though, the summer will be soon upon us. Gaylight savings is one of the indications of the impending summer. At this point, I would like to remind everyone that on saturday, we will be going to the beach again. Every kiwi has to come. As previously discussed on saturday at our usual hang out at bubble tea, we will be having trips to HBT, recording sessions, lunch at subiaco, cam whoring at wherever, and of course, lets try to finish the scarpbook for eunice shall we. Speaking of which, where in blue skies has it gone to. Anyways, some of us still have exams, so we'll leave the true celebration to friday.

Thinking back to the sermon on saturday, i cant help but thank the Lord that our kiwi family is abundantly blessed with princess warriors. It cannot be denied that no body really wants to mess with any of these princesses.( even though one of the princesses *ahem a***** seems to think that she/he is a man!) But jokes aside, it was a very thought provoking message even for a male (yes im a man!). I do hope everyone realises their true worth and value in God's eyes. I mean i dont like to generalise, but the sermon was really a mood lifter and seeing all the fellas pray for their sisters was heart warming at best.

Anyway, for all you bored kiwis out there who have finishes exams, heres a list of things that i strongly recommend to do when you are at home.(although you wont be at home too much cause ill be calling you guys out)
1) Youtube/facebook/msn - the former enemy is now a friend once again
2) Cook - remember, less is more, this is very true for use of oil
3) Reading - maya angelou seems to be on my list at the moment of poems to read, many other books as well  but how about starting on one of my favorite books, the time travellers wife and stories we could tell by tony parsons
4) Drama-ing - come one people, sleep over at woodvale and watching shows till the wee hours of the morning, eating cookie dough from the tub and drinking milk
5) Spending more time with God - i know eunice has already reminded us time and time again to spend even more time with God, surely now that we have finished our exams and have so much free time, reading the bible, praying worshiping should take priority above all our activities lined up

Anyways, there are really many many more things we can do. Apologies to the insensitiveness of this post as i do realise that there are some who have not finished exams. Fear not, the end is near and while the last lap seems forever, relive will soon come.

Toodles friends, and see you all soon.

But the night you filled with fireworks, they left you with nothing

.reid.

yup i am SUPPOSED to be studying, but i'm not.. how has your studying been??? my paper today was good. hehe.. really Thank God for it.. like jiali is thankful too! indeed God will be with us when we study and when we go into the exam hall *amen?*

i've been so distracted with my studying that it got me thinking.. how you know, when it is the most crucial time, we often get distracted by things around us and not focus.. yupyup... ofcourse, exams are the practical issue here, but i am also talking about our walk with God.. these short period we have on earth are indeed crucial cos compared to our eternity, it is really a fraction of a second.. so all the more we need to focus, on our work, and on GOD!!!

lets all keep our focus right k??? and jiayou to all those still trying to cram stuff for your exams *which wld b most of us* we have been camping in the reid library, uwa so if any of you are interested come join us. we as in jeremy eunice wong aletheia lijin n myself. hehe..

lately, i found myself wondering

"and leave yourself intact, cause ill be coming back"

I am amazed at how gloomy the weather has been. All things considered, i find it a constant battle to resist the temptation to lie on my bed. Friends, as in my earlier post, i talked about the battle that looms, the battle of exams. Here is the gathered intel on what the enemy looks like:

1)Facebook - this unassuming social networking website schemes to take away our attention from the serious matter of note making. Its constant "notifications" send our brain waves into a frenzy.
(TIP: Turn off notifications, in serious attacks of facebook, pluck out your wireless internet connection)

2) MSN - Yes, we all like to be online. Yes we want our fellow soldiers to know that we are - currently in reid library, or i hate exams, or or the bestest one, my brain is pain from too much mugging. This IM application serves as a double edged sword as it could help you when you need to ask questions from fellow course mates. It becomes a distraction when you start to talk about things not exam related.
(TIP: CF facebook)

3) The TV - We reach the time of spring when new block busters like Gossip Girl, OTH, Heroes, Scrubs and the like are showing at prime time. Honestly, how can one be expected to study on a thursday night where there is at least 6 hours of unwatchable TV. TV kills the best of us and besides distracting us from studying makes us vunerable to what i like to call "undeveloped brain" syndrome where our brain starts to slow.
(TIP: Get a grandmother to hog your TV and all is solved. Other more helpful tips are to tape your shows and watch it during the holidays.)

4) Youtube - Again, another scourge of the enemy that rips the mightiest strongest most studious student down to shreds. Those darn futaris are always coming up with new songs. And who can resist watching bloopers of Malaysian's finest sing on Idol. Watching NFL players smash each other is also a highlight.
(TIP: Blow your bandwidth way early before exams so streaming videos becomes unviable. May backfire when student tries to access CMO)

5) Eunice teo - the biggest and more un subtle distraction. Profile of enemy has indicated that she likes to sms or call you at the most inconvenient times. Distractions can last from 5 mins to extreme cases of 2 hours. (TIP: Change your phone number or resist the urge to go on msn)

note: the last enemy is a joke. JOKING only la eunice, dont get mad)

And there we have it, the enemy has been identified, i do hope that company intel has been useful to all our kiwi warriors. Now on to some somber thoughts...

Certainly, the week that passed was surely an epic one. From the mad rushing around on friday afternoon to the crazy time we had at cell appreciation where first the message of who God is was spoke about and then we had our chance to express our appreciation to Oonice. It was truly a testament to the story of change, and this change really only came because of our openess to God's hand in our lives. . I know we have talked about this, and people have said what they needed to say on our journey this semester. but honestly, the truth of the matter is, next semester, there be times where we will go ' i dont want to move on, i just want to keep reliving.. However, the moments we shared will forever be a part of us, there is beauty in the breakdown. So get excited for next year, your next cell, heck get excited for the rest of your life.

This friday, Eunice has graciously invited us to her house for dinner. I dont know about you guys but ill be camping in the lawbury or reid(gay asian people on the third floor making so much noise) all day and a dinner after sounds pretty good. Apparently, she would like us all to be seated by 7pm. Pre-drinks will be from 6 to 7 and some light aperitifs and crudities will be provided along with champag-neee and OJ. There will be a short time of prayer and worship after our evening nourishment. Im pretty pumped up knowing that we head into our exams with the promise that God will be there for us. Philippians 4: 6-7 is pretty appt here i think. So lets continue to smash those books, pawn the noob units that we undertake and like Pastor Pat says, shine God's glory through our results and lives.

I believe in angels,
The kind that heaven sends,
I am surrounded by angels,
But I call them friends.

I believe in angels
The kind that heavens send
Im surrounded by angels,
I call them friends.

Ilects, notes and the lawbury...maybe the reid too

"if practice makes perfect and no one is perfect why practice"

Seems that time is upon us again. As we head into our last official week of classes and get ourselves ready for swap vac, many emotions sweep through our mind. For some, there are feelings of trepidation and fear, for others who have put in the hard yards, there is supreme confidence, and yet, no matter how much you have prepared for the exams, there would always be some elements of doubt and fear. The time is now. Sure, it may seem that we are heading into a time of crisis. But the reality is, how we respond will prove vital to the end result. Times like these, I question whether if all that matters is the result, or if the process is just as important. This holistic approach to our exams seem to be the right way to go. Are we just trying to score well for exams? Or are we trying to pick up skills and show that we have understood these skills for our chosen future occupations.

The reality is this. Life is really all about inches. I mean, yes we are in deep doo doo now. For most of us, time is running out. We still have many topics to cover and yet, the facebook consumes us. So we can stay here, in our self pity, or we can fight our way back into the light, we can climb out of the poo, inch by inch, one inch at a time. Now on this team, we fight for that inch, we claw and tear away at anything just for that inch. For when we add all those inches up, we know its going to make a difference. I promise its not going to be easy. There will be times where we feel like giving up. But take hope that the rest of your kiwis are going through the same thing, and most importantly, in our suffering, we have a hope in our Lord.

Pretty soon, the exam timetables of your fellow kiwis will be posted up. I would like to urge all of us to pray for each other. Pray for the favor of the markers, for strength of mind, for concentration and above all, pray for diligence. With one pump fisted raised, let us all Ah ooh in unison as we head into the final battle.....

"We practice for we hope for perfection"

Hugs

Hey friends, greetings and salutations upon you all.

What do you know, in the blink of an eye, our time is coming to an end. Think back to that first cell where we had that massive food fest, the day we had the incredible bbq in eunice's living room, or the time we watched the olympics and jia li got mad at certain people for mentioning the now termed unmentionable word, think of all the times we burned up eunice's internet bandwidth. How about the time we ( i use the term "we" here very loosey) spent the night packing stuff for SFAS and then after that still decided to go eat uncle billys. I for one seem to remember eating alot at saigon this semester.

Next week, apparently is our last cell together along as a cell. This thought has made me very teary (note to aletheia, you better not be huhu or haha, or if you are, make the haha a short one). As such, i do urge you to enjoy each other's company as much as possible. Give out as many hugs as possible, whether imaginary or real, these hugs do mean alot to all. Also, as our last session as a cell comes to a close, i also urge all of you to work those abs and continue to watch your carb intake. Next week is really going to be very special but i don't want to spoil the surprise lest eunice crucify me so ill let her blog about that some other time.

Anyways, there is a point to me blogging today. As you all know, i truly hate blogging unless there is something absolutely blog worthy. I do hope all of you can take the time to read the following then. Me, having been very distracted the last couple of days and thinking too much, decided that i should spend more time reading the word. And as i was reading and flipping around, a bit aimless, i came upon the story of Paul and Silas in the prison. This story has a significance to me as it was the first reading i ever shared in a bible study back in Singapore. I was also very blessed to have heard a certain prominent pastor speak about this. But i digress....

The reading is Acts 16: 25 - 34

Yea apologies for the lengthy intro but i have a point to share. Anyways, the story goes that Paul and Silas were worshiping and praying when they were in jail and God send an angel to set them free miraculously. What happens next is their jailer finds them freed from their chains and is shocked. Paul and Silas then preach to their new jailer friend and the jailer and his whole family are saved and baptised.

So this pastor shared on this reading and emphasized on the act of worship.

These were the points he shared from my hazy memory ( darn that i still don't have a notebook)

1) Uninhibited Worship breaks chains in your darkness hour

- Paul and Silas were worshiping without restraint full of joy to the lord and it was at midnight (or the darkest hour). When we worship with our whole heart, especially in our times of darkness, God will set us free from our chains.

2) Uninhibited worship affects others around you and breaks their chains too

- it says in verse 26 that the chains of the other prisoners were broken too. When we worship God with our whole heart, especially in praising and singing to him, we affect others around us. Their chains will be broken too. I guess how that impacted me was that in the context of worship in church, the unsaved, or even the people who might not have experienced a truly intimate worship experience with God will be affected, when we worship.

3) Uninhibited worship saves the unsaved

- the jailer, after having seen Paul and Silas set free was given a chance to hear the gospel. After that, not only he, but his family as well was saved. When we worship, we have the opportunity to affect the unsaved and lead them to christ. I swear the atmosphere or something changes and God comes down answering us who seek him so much and worship him in exaltation. And when he comes, the lost will get touched and saved.

Ok thats about as much as I remembered as it was a long time ago. Funny enough, this message just came to my mind so i thought ill spring some major verbal action on you guys. So i challenge all of us, the next time at church or cell or wherever, let's just worship in an uninhibited style, just giving it all in worship. I remember last sem, my old cell leader challenged us to just jump around or raise our hands or do whatever that helps us best express our love to God in style. And he guaranteed that what we would feel after, how our relationship with God evolves after, will be like nothing we ever experienced. Honestly, i do love worshiping God and its pretty much my favorite part of any service ( not to say i don't like the other parts too) but yea.

Ok ill end here even though i have heaps of jokes and funnies, ill leave that for my last post

Cheerios Kiwis,

XOXO

Look back and 'Thank' God.
Look forward and 'Trust' God.
Look around and 'Serve' God.
Look within and 'Find' God!'

dig deep, fly high

i wanna be like a tree
planted by the water
trusting in the Father to keep me strong

i wanna be like a tree
planted by the water
trusting in the name of the lord

*enlightenment* thats a kids song that the kids ministry sang today.. yupyup for those of u who din know, jem lijin n myself popped by the kids ministry today.. it was a very interesting experience cos jeremy gave himself a new nicname, lijin had fun i dare say, and we all had fun wif daylan during lunch.. i'll get photos up somewhere during the week yea..

anyhow, back to that song dat we sang today.. its really amazing how God speaks.. as i came home after church, i was scanning through my itunes and this podcast called 5 lessons from the palm tree caught my eye. and *the usually lazy me that wont bother to listen* i sat down to listen to it. and i felt its not only for me, but for all of us.. dats why i tot i'd share it wif u all here.. i'll just share with you all 3 main points that really struck me and if u guys want the last 2 come look for me (",)

lesson 1: palm trees are not easily uprooted

amongst all the different trees, palm trees are the toughest planst that exist. and its for the simple reasons that their roots grows deep into the earth to search for water. and the roots here represents your relationship with God. you really need to build up on your relationship with God to stay steadfast in Him.

You are only as strong as your roots are. so no matter how much you show other ppl on d outside, if your roots are not strong, u'll juz b like an empty vessel.. and the last thing is you may not look like much right now, but if you are planted in God, whats in the roots will get to the branches

lesson 3: palm trees will bend but not break

palm trees are one of the most "flexible" trees around. the tropical winds can be so strong that it snaps all other trees in its way, but the palm tree may bend, but it does not break. and when the wind stops, the tree will bounce right back.

all of us are made to outlast the storm. let us all not let setbacks, life, the enemy etc pull us down yea.. with God as your roots, u can bounce right back up.

lesson 5: cold will kill the palm tree

palm trees do not survive in the cold. and this illustration is really quite straight forward. if your relationship with God is cooling off, means u're "dying" and it is your responsibility to create an atmostphere of warmth so you can grow in.

ps franklin ended off wif 2 quotes "keep a warm environment in your house" and "dig deep, fly high"

wow. when i was typing it, i felt like it was a whole word. but yea. i really want to encourage you guys. start digging deep.. i've challenged some of u to have a consistent QT dis wk.. and for the rest of you, lets aim to listen to God more this week k?? it'll amaze you how much He wants to speak with you. (",)

anw.. how have u guys been ?? *i know dis shld b @ d beginning but yea. din wanna spoil d flow* i heard u guys had fun w/o me. *sobs* hahaha.. but i had a refreshing time as well.. its good to bond with the leaders of the church once in a while. hehe.. n since i heard u guys were too engrossed in hot guys on youtube n google than listening to jiali's announcement i'll just hafta repeat it here. hehehe... pasar malam (curtin's version of spring feast) is dis friday.. what say u guys if we have cell at 6.30 *sharp* and go down for that? heard its really good.. give us a shout out in the tag board if u're ok with it yea. n further details will follow soon.. (",)

The weekend that was

Strangely, maximum impact proved to be really impactful. Im not sure if the purpose of the event was to impact, but if it was, it certainty proved to be very impactful. A few things i learned from the event. Smile when you talk. This was truly revolutionary and the idea of smiling while you talked really hit me hard. Of course, there are certainly exceptions to this rule and a few scenarios the speaker did not think about. For example, it is very important what kind of smile you are giving off. If you are talking to a small kid, do not under any circumstances smile in a leering sort of way. Similarly, the cheeky im-not-taking-you-seriously smile is also not advised in most situations. There will also be times where you do not smile at all. One such situation would be when your lecturer is telling you off for talking in class. Other situations include someone telling you about the death of a love one, and someone telling you that their parents are getting a divorce. There were other things that were taught that day but i was very distracted by Aletheia trying to play kiddy games on paper, Janice routinely shooting me dirty looks, and Lijun sending me notes with very defamatory comments. However, Im sure most of you had a fruitful experience, please do sign up for next year. Or if you can't be bothered, just watch the trailer. As Aletheia pointed out, that is really all you need to know. Also, I find the black man staring back at us very creepy as well.

I thought I share a trend of thought that I've been having for a while now. It kind of tied in to what that pastor dude spoke about at maximum impact. He was talking about vision casting. The last devotion I did spoke about how we can have moments on the mountain. That is, where we get the vision, where we feel God the most, where we feel we can do anything in him. However, the author of the devotion begins to say that there will be a time where we have to go down to the valley, where the hurts of the world are, where our fellow men suffer and that is where we will truly be tested. I for one didn't like the idea at first. I mean, who doesn't want to stay on the mountain forever and stay close to the Lord's presence. I guess what I'm trying to say in this short span of page without yapping on for too long is we really should'nt be discourage or sad when we are in the valley and "away" from God. I think if we renew our minds and hearts with God every single day, really we will just be fine. So maybe we can keep all our members in prayer. Pray for each one of us that even though school, work and even our relationships can really drain us, and times seem overwhelming, that God will always renew our minds and give us strength. For he is our strength. So for all those kiwis out there who feel weary, be reminded that we are on each others prayer list and God loves us.

Whew that was a bit of a mouthful. Anyways, i think i asked everyone last friday if we wanted to go down on wednesday to utopia for Wilson's singing debut. Tickets are 10 dollars and yours truly managed to take off work to go support the willy man. Do note also that Willy is the newest member of the former Team JLA now just J-LAW. Know that I will be calling you and pester you to come, so be prepared. Also, the team at kiwi headquarters, mainly just Eunice is thinking of going to Ciao Italia for dinner one of these days. If you have not been, you really should be shot. The tiramisu alone is worth the long drive to south perth. What do you guys think? Friday before cell or Thursday night? Let us all remind ourselves though that we have assignments due on friday. [update: lijin will b giving u all calls to see if u can make it on friday k?? cos thurs is springfeast. so think u guys wld wanna go support your friends der]

Anyways, this being the start of the week, i hope all of you have a great week. Do call each other to have chats and talking to kiwis are really fun.
peace

Hello lovely kiwis,

SFAS after blues

Little wonder why Hollywood stars and actors on broadway turn to drugs or burn out, the life of a performer is a tough one. I speak from experience as a veteran on the stage. Being a member of the choir has trained me well. I now can smile and hold it there for a good one minute. I am also now proficient in the ways of the ninja with pretty lame dance moves to boot.

I got to say that with the aftermath that was SFAS, i felt kinda sad-ish the next few days. I sorta missed the whole experience. Maybe it was the bow tie made of paper, using how to use an eyelash curler, putting on glitter eyeshadow, constantly telling eunice to stop messaging her boyfriend, or maybe even Ivan the man who asked me for permission to use the toilet, but i do miss the choir. Funnily enough, this was my swan song and i have since retired from the choir. Next year, Team JLA will take to the stage in a very conceptual performance with art in the background, lights and lots of smoke from the smoke machine. I do hope all yous enjoyed the show. I do have to remind you that there was a strict policy of no photos allowed during the choir segment and if you guys did take any photos, I am happy to say that i will be on site on friday to collect any negatives, or USBs.  One comment that i do have to make though it is rather harsh, i still feel that superman should have worked out abit before doning the suit.

I apologize also for any confusion over some alleged party after SFAS. Clearly, it was never in my intention to cheat anybody's feelings about a party. But word from the grapevine is that people are interested in hearing Linzie sing live and works are in progress for a live performance by Team JLA. We will be doing a half an hour session of popular covers. Venue will most probably be somewhere outdoorsy like matilda bay or eunice teo's balcony. Of course, there will be no cost and light refreshments will even be provided. There will be a bowl for people who wish to donate to the cause that is JLA. Please note that this is quite serious and Im really trying to make this happen haha. Third time lucky fingers crossed.

Abit of information for those of you who didn't attend tennis on sunday. Teo face and friends are truly horrific when it comes to tennis. Jacq kept hitting the ball so well that Weiping had no way to return the balls. Although that might have been because the court she was hitting to  was on a totally different court from which they were playing at. Aletheia kept getting distracted and so had no way to play properly. Teo just is a sucks so wasn't really her fault. In all fairness to weiping, the racket was too big for her and so she too could not play. On a brighter note, Garreth is pretty good and so is Isaiah.

And Im rambling now so i leave you with this thought i picked up from reading the newpaper today. Australian Egalitarianism? Love it or hate it. I thought it weird that we would never have this problem in Singapore where we love elitism. Australians are sure weird.

Anyways, i hope you guys have a great week ahead, ill be praying for all of you, even those of you that Im not particularly fond of

XOXO

thank you for the music

so its been an interesting week so far for most kiwis in general. Aletheia turned 22, Eunice Wong returned to tavern duty, jia li went back to china, and oonice (not technically a kiwi i dont know why we allow her to be on this blog) cooked us quite a spectacular looking dinner with "pro" steak.
This write had a pretty interesting week and decided that it be best if his thoughts were written down. We understand however, that a certain someone, of the canningvale variety has issues with the length of the posts so far and hence i shall try to keep this to a minimal length. We start the post with the very interesting visit to the magistrate court on monday. Nothing of much interest actually took place except for a case where the accused was charged with unlawful wounding. Clearly, this man was very frustrated that his case had not been sent to trial yet. Anyway, the lesson i took from this visit was the whole holistic approach taken to criminal justice in our state. Apparently our system practices therapeutic jurisprudence where we incarceration is the last option and the system tries to make sure the offender doesn't reoffend again. In laymans terms, the system is more interested in the process rather than by the outcome.
I thought about certain churches in general and this is not a lets slam so and so church post. Sometimes, we do seem to put a greater focus on the numbers, the result where success is measured by the number of new comers, the amount of money in the offering, rather than the process. Of course, I feel really blessed that in Zion, much emphasis is placed on the process of discipleship, nurturing and accountability. Sorry for that rather serious trend, thought it would help Jiali ( and all those other doubters) understand that i do have a brain and i do think lol.

So choir was a laugh today. We posed like tyra banks on the catwalk, "little" henry got hit, Eunice teo kept messaging her boyfriend and we all lost abit of our manhood. Also, our gang of troopers took abit of a trek to canningvale and i finally got to say hello to Aletheia's uber cool aunty! In all honesty though, this choir experience has made me realize that I look really good with glitter on my face. Also, jia huei has quite an incredible voice, and strong arms which hit hard. Well cell details will be out soon and it seems the general consensus is for us to have cell on friday at 5pm. Jerry jerry will be doing the word. I think right, and i haven actually run this pass eunice yet, SFAS rehearsals end at 915pm. So i thought that we could have a quick cell, then those of us who do not have choir can maybe hang out for abit, trash eunice's house, chill, smoke some dope, then wait till 915pm and we can all go and eat something. I mean, what do we stand for if not for eating. and the word of god also of course. So please let us know what you think of this brilliant idea of mine and look forward to seeing glitter on my face

you know you miss me
XOXO

Spring holidays, the chateau and a tribute

Hey friends, i have missed you all dearly since our last meeting. Clearly, it has been too long since we have seen each others beautiful faces. (last year wednesday if im not wrong?) As such, a reunion is in order. As most of us are having some sort of holidays this week, we should take a day to catch up with old friends. Im sure all of you are dying to know whos doing what now, whos with who now, and most importantly, whos earning the most now. So here are the plans for wednesday:

There are two options. We may have lunch at this pasta place in Subiaco, then go to kingspark and cam whore. Or, we may go to kingspark and cam whore, then go eat at Subi.

I know, the activity sounds rather drab. But but, do note that eunice teo will be there. Yes eunice teo. If you struggle to rememeber who she is because we haven seen her in so long, eunice teo was the champion legendary woman who allowed us to have a BBQ in her house. She will be doing most of the photo taking and most of the pasta eating as well. So please, rsvp your attendance to Jiali, yes the chinese lady who has turned out quite well after all these years and we shall meet again on wednesday. I am so excited!

Sorry for that big of rubbish above,
The tribute:
A couple of weeks back, we were in cell and I was introducing everyone. I apologise for that crappy introduction and so i decided to do a proper one, less formal from previous blog posts, befitting of the kiwis on here. So lets throw up our gang sign and read on...

Eunice teo: She is really quite a remarkable young woman. Eunice has been a real blessing to all of us this semester haha. While at times abit boring with the crappy games and the loserish refreshment themes, Eunice has shown her care to all of us in incredible ways. Plus, she works at subway in her spare time and still fits uni around all of that. Im willing to bet that if she had a car, we would be seeing alot more of her in the week. More to be said but yea, we'll leave that for cell leaders appreciation.

Jiali:
Im sure most of you will agree that the indomitable spirit of this lady is frightening at times. However,  i respect jiali for her loyalty to her country. She is also incredibly in love with the lord jesus christ and seems to like to make food that takes ages to cook. One momenet i remember about her is during the road trip we had last semester, she told me how her brothers shoot her with toy guns. The facial expression was priceless. So i hope Jiali continues to make us laugh in cell. Perhaps maybe not hitting me so much too.

Kenny Chan: Words cannot describe how much i respect this man. Seriously, sometimes during sharing, im like, dude, thats some dope wisdom. Hes sharing has really impacted me and like just the way he does car trips and sends people home as well is pretty thought provoking, in a good way.

Gloria Tan: Another powerful woman. Loves the odd wash and makes mad dog good egg tarts. In all seriousness, very sincere and caring person too. Very entertaining at times and seems to have grown fond of the word apparently. One moment i remember of gloria is on the second day of the road trip and she was fortunate to join our car, the big willy! yea anyways, we had a good chat, cause she was sleepy. Hopefully our prized dish washer doesnt leave us next year.

Eunice wong: Wong face is just too funny. I view her with suspicion because she's always getting me into trouble. For example, on the first day of uni in semester one, i was rather unfortunate to meet her while walking to uni and we both got lost as she insisted that her way was the right way. We ended up at some weird place. Good thing Max came and saved us. But in all seriousness, Eunice wong has a really good heart and she does love to help people. Case in example, shes going to South america at the end of the year to help the less fortunate.

Linzie: Now most people will think that linzie is just the quiet little girl who smiles alot and looks very cute. But Linzie is actually quite the pro at university. Honestly, i have never seen her skip a single lecture. She is also really kind to everyone. Big thanks to linzy for giving me a jason mraz cd and introducing his music to me. We will definitely bring you to a concert one day even though you live so freaking far haha.

Janice: Well, i haven known Janice for a very long time. Most days, she does enjoy seeing me in discomfort and pain. However, i have come to realise that she is quite a nice person deep down (haha its true). She serves in the ushering ministry which plays a big part in the church and just has this huge grin on her face all the time. I remember the last time we played for cell worship together and it was my bad that she didnt get the chords right but she didn't even complain and still played on. Too good she was. She is also a great contributor in sharings, clearly, she is also very wise. (must be an age thing i swear haha). Also, she has a fondness for drawing on my feet for some reason.

Alethiea (is this spelt right): The other half of the dynamic superhero team of team jeremy. Alethiea says she pretty much sucks at everything. Guitar, piano, cooking etc etc. Haven known her for the longest time too and when i first met her, i thought that she didnt speak english. (cause you didnt speak much at all). After a few weeks of chilling at Eunice's house early before cell and moaning that we should be doing our assignments, I've come to realise that she is anything but quiet. She obviously is quite pro at the piano and obviously should give up learning how to play the guitar. One thing that i remember distinctly about her is last week at cell when we were talking about expanding team jeremy to a three piece and she laughed even though it wasn't really that funny. Too good, hope you have a good birthday soon, even though you are the second oldest person in our cell.

Lin: Another new one to my friends list. Like me, she is a fellow northie who lives in the whoop whoop of joondalup. Lin is quite possibly the most cheerful person ever. She just smiles alot for some reason. Some times i thinks its cause shes taking some pills. Jokes aside, Lin is another of those girls who wash alot of dishes during cell. I am eternally grateful to her and also very grateful that i have some one to talk to on the long ride to joondalup. She just had her birthday not long and we wish her a happy year ahead.

Lijin: And now we have the nerd (sorry ben see calls you that). A great buddy of mine ( we go all the way back to primary school), we had this one session in the law library where Ben, Lijin and myself attempted to study. Wasn't the most productive session there was. Lijin is the mentee of gloria and might soon take over her as cell dishwasher. She does this all however, with a cheerful heart. Lijin also has some mad massaging skills and i do urge you all to ask her for a quick one before cell. We are so glad we stole her from Benny's cell.

Ly: A new young fledging to the cell, we welcomed her two weeks ago when she came for a quick visit. I do hope that this introduction is more helpful to you ly. You are quite the eager learner i realise lol.

Apologies if this seems rather rush but i promise a more well written and thought out one will be written for the cell appreciation. While it is sad that we only have a few more weeks left with each other, i do hope we can grow as tight as we can and i mean, with such a cool gang sign like ours, whats not to like. Peace to all of you and we'll be praying for you. (especially for gloria cause shes quite stressed lol)

Refreshments and Cell stuff

Whew, what a week. I shall attempt the world this week in a few sentences. Rodger federer won the US open. We had a hung vote in the state election. I joined the choir and owned it. Fun times at the convocation. Tts only wednesday thats why not much as happened but a certain cell member who was tasked the job of choosing the theme for refreshments has chosen a rather controversial theme. This could arguably be the best or the worst refreshments we will have.
And now, straight from the horse's mouth...
" Spring clean, just when you think winter's got you cornered, strike back. This week, we will be indulging in food that you know is good for you but you never knew it tastes so *cat*(edit because it was not edifying) good. Go low in fat but keep the full on flavour. Lets get a little nurition into our system and get into the mood for spring"

Pretty impressive theme i must say. For those of you who didn't quite catch it, i think what mysterious person ( we shall code her G LOrea because she didn't want to be known, hint her name starts with G and rhymes with diarhoea) wanted to say is we will be eating healthy food. Before we go all alfafa sprouts and tofu and organic everything, i want to emphasize the full on flavour comment. I guess we can start working towards the abs and glutes that we need for that beach trip in summer. I dont know, but for me, spring was always the nasty season of flu, fever and the occasional syphilis. So friends, tag away and decide what to bring. Yours truly might be cooking for the first time and its not going to be mi goreng.

And now for the serious matter of "GUESS WHO". The beautiful boy is ME of course. Clearly, at a young age, i was destined for great things. My taste in socks and clothes were questionable but it was the 90s, we loved to be ugly. Oh and just in case anybody wanted to know, the other kid was eunice teo. Please also read the why do we fall bruce and rate it out of 10. Or you can give it a star if you think its that good.

Anyways, to make this more personal, im going to say i miss you all, love you all, and that im praying for some of you. Those that i can remember of course. Nah im kidding, all of yous.
peace
note from eunice: i was thinking of making mooncake after cell.. wad say u guys? cos we r gg for mooncake festival celebration on sat aft service.. taking over dinner time hehe...

Why do we fall bruce?

Why do we fall bruce?

I realise i am being rather narcissistic here writing post after post about fairly rather pointless material mainly about myself.

So I thought, with all the whingeing that Jiali has poured out over the last couple of weeks about uni course preferences, i thought ill help her out by sharing some experiences about uni and what to expect from the courses most of us undertake. So Jiali, pen and paper, and lets start this epic journey of learning.

Of course, it would be ideal that you start studying quite hard for your college exams. When it comes to preferences, it is preferable that and we do prefer that you get a high mark. Students armed with a high grade average can pretty much do any course they prefer and are not just stuck with a choice between arts and going to curtin (please do not hate me janice and other kids from curtin, im just trying to illustrate a point). Now heres a short list of the courses that fellow kiwis are studying at the moment

1) Commerce
The quintessential course for the asian who loves his rice and and being late for everything. With commerce, you can expect to have mostly average and sometimes rubbish lecturers for your first few semesters. Leading the list of all time failures at the moment is Gopalan ( yes that is he's name) of stats fame and Vincent " i am boring and from malaysia" Chong. Of course, there are benefits to studying commerce. You would have an abundance of friends in every lecture, you get to lecture mostly in the uber convenient locations of social science and arts (maybe not next year when that infernal building gets completed), you would be able to scab notes off your seniors and you actually have so few contact hours that you could easily shop at harbour town. Of course, the content of commerce gets a bit harder as you progress but theres certainly money to be made on a finance, accounting or banking major. And if you decide you just wanna party at uni, marketing and management always welcomes you with open arms.

2) Bio Medical
As the name suggests, this course is mostly about Biology and Medical stuff. The biology part kinda dry. The medical part, pretty dry too. From a completely unbiased view, i objectively think that Bio Medical is pretty dry. But, on the plus side, you get to do biology stuff, and if you're really lucky, they throw in some medical stuff at the end of the day. To summarise all that has been said about this course, the content is mainly biology and medical issues. (if you think about it, why not just study medicine, its bio med, without the biology).

3) Psychology
My learned friend from singapore once extolled to me the virtues of a psych major. The list of greats from this field are numerous but i will list some of the prominent ones. Carl Jung, the intellectual who shared the view that man loved science and logic over spirituality. Sigmund Freud, whom which freudian slips are named after. He too had a bushy beard. This fellow also might have studied the idea of repression in the mind and was said to have had a super ego. Michael Foucault, arguably not a psychologist but was weird enough to be grouped with the super brainacs. Of course, this list is not exhaustive, and there are many more great persons. Bringing it all together, by choosing to study this course, perhaps one might figure out the reasons we pee in our beds at night.

4) Human Movement
Once known as sports science, or just sports, this course has the unlucky distinction of having the building at the "end" of the university. For the longest time, the human movement building was like a legend, nay a myth that seniors told to us freshies. It is some what like the lochness monster. You hear about it alot and it intrigues you, but you don't really want to see it because it would be too much of a discomfort. Enrolling in this course will make you very knowledgeable in the art of nutrition and other very active stuff. Of course, do not enroll in this unit if you do not like sitting in a lecture room that spells like sweat. Also, note that you will be doing alot of active stuff.

5) Law
This is the course with the best faculty club. The blackstone society does make sure its members are fully integrated into the student community. But why study law? Firstly, you will probably make tons of cash, maybe not as much as the investment bankers in the commerce faculty, but enough to get the new model audi tt roadster and maybe a lunch at broadway everynow and then. There will be probably alot of reading to do, more so than you ever thought possible. Also, do not be fooled by movies such as Legally blonde and ally mcbeal. We do not wear copious amounts of pink and or wear ferragamos and carry gucci clutches. We also do not bring midget dogs to the class. We do often however, forget to do assignments. To quote elle woods from a not so famous movie " Sorry sir, i wasn't aware that we had an assignment". At the end of semester, you would be able to name at the top of your head 3 people that make you want to throw things when they raise their hands in class. In summary, law school promises a fun adventure for those who are willing to learn, and read. And i promise, we do not do biology or medical stuff.

Conclusion:
Obviously uni life will be very different from life in canning college. But do take comfort in the fact that you will have alot of friends at UWA. ( again sorry to the curtin readers/ friends?) But whatever course you may choose to take, remember that we all strive to do our best here at this fine institution and that we have bright futures even if we do choose to do biology and medical stuff.
so see you when i see you
xoxo

Refreshments and other boring but useful information

And he stood, at the pass of thermopylae, surveying the vast invading army that seemed to be uncountable. Leonidas, a man of courage and truth raised his sword. With his other free hand, he formed a fist and beat his chest, " For sparta!" he cried and a resounding battle cry was raised throughout the 300 that were present...

Gotta love that epic story of the battle at the pass of thermopylae. Truly a symbol of hope and courage to our generation. Anyways, i hope everyone in our band of "brothers" (sisters too of course but it would have sounded weird if i had gone band of sisters) have been keeping well. Let us all hold to the maxim of good sleep and a good diet equals happy times.

This week for cell, the theme for refreshments is stuff you can put on a stick and grill. Fondly remembering the joy ( and slight pandemonium) that was the tuckshop boys at foodfest, i thought, why not recreate the wonderful moments. So of course, i will be bringing my grill and lots of butter.

Stuff that taste good on the grill
1) Fishballs
2) Sausages
3) Crabsticsk
4) Bacon
5) Mushrooms
Pretty much anything goes here so yea, just bring whatever you fancy. Remember the point of all this is not just to feed ourselves, but to make eunice's house smell like grilled butter. Mmh, tasty. Going off topic for a while, i remember i once saw an add for BBQ perfume. What the?!

Also Eunice Wong will be doing worship this week. I shall comment no futher.

Lastly, I do apologize for this hasty post. Rather dismal in the style and writing, and all round boring too but I promise the next post will entertain.

when princess sparkle met captain oats

so I spent most of the morning today hanging out at kids ministry at sunday service. And it got me thinking, why do people make babies. I'm all for procreating, i mean if our parents didnt fall in love and get married, we would not have been born. So what exactly causes Princess sparkle to fall in love with the Captain, and why on earth would they want to make mini sparkles and oats. Anyway, here's an insight to what goes on at kids ministry.

10:15am
Kids are randomly dropped off at this semi cosy room in curtin. Though i do have to admit, these bunch of kids were blessed with good genes. They all looked very pleasant, and one would not have thrown something at the kids just because they had asymmetrical facial features. I soon found out that any one above the age of 13 were called "teachers". Imagine the shock, and mild delight when i was referred to as Teacher Jeremy. There was a brief moment of madness ( that seemed to set the tone for the rest of the session) when Teacher Ivy induced the kids to guess who was in charge of games for the day. This set off many of the kids who proceeded to scream and shout out names. It was soon revealed that teacher brandon was in charge of games and the game (honestly so boring, so boring that i wont bother telling you what it was) was played. That ended the games segment of the session.

1100am
After what seemed like a rather energetic 30 mins of games, the kids were split up into different age groups. I followed Teacher Faith and Teacher Yan pin as they lead the toddlers into a different room. What madness that ensued, i do not wish it upon anyone. The aim for that 30 mins was to teach these sugar-induced toddlers how to dance to a kids song for fathers day. I will attempt to describe the scene. In the middle of the room, Yan pin was attempting tirelessly to coerce and cajole the kids into following her routine. However, most of these kids had other ideas in mind. Cathlin, she proved to be quite an agile little cat. She was climbing from table to table. Ryan, he was more of a method actor. Throughout the time spent in the room, he tried his best to act like a snake crawling over the floors like a snake on his belly. There were other kids too of course, most of them running around some very interested with what the bin had to offer. Looking at the scene before me, even i started to feel very sleepy and tired. Finally, after realizing the futility of their efforts, the teachers started to gather their young friends and brought them back for a round of art and craft. At this point, Faith decided that little Christopher had had enough and we brought him to see his brother, daylan.

1200ish, (honestly, i forget)
This next place i went to was the creche. There was a ball pen, which my practical side had to convince me that it was not big enough for a 21 year old. There were little toy cars, and puzzles and of course babies. To say that it was an educational visit would be an understatement. I learned that babies loved to throw food out of their mouths. I learned that you do not throw a ball at a baby. I learned that you tell the gender of the baby not by how he or she looks but by the colour of their clothes.

Many more things happened throughout this experience but i do realize i am waffling and as i write this, even i am getting tired recounting the experience. Bringing it all back to the point of this post, kids, athough alot of work are very lovable creatures. True, some of them do have weird habits ( one such habit of daylan included pulling down his pants for the world to see), and some of them have terrible eating manners ( i do believe taking your lasagna and spewing it on the sleeping mats is not acceptable manners in any part of the world, even the tribes of malaysia i.e kuching) but they have a serene aura about them. So the next time your princess sparkle and captain oats moment comes along, think about the joy of children, and also, i cant help but add this, think about the population problem that is China.

Peace to my kiwi brethren, and eunice teo too i suppose

We love malaysia, we do

Greetings my fellow kiwis. I do hope everyone's eating right and working out those bodies for the abs for summer program, with everyone jumping on the bandwagon that is atkins, we will definitely have washboard abs in no time.

Some tips for the uninitiated who want to get ripped
1) Drink lots of water
2) Pee a lot ( i think 1 and 2 go hand in hand)
3) Eat your greens
4) Better yet, just dont eat
5) And the number one tip to lose weight, drop the carbs. Remember Jeremy's maxim, carbs are bad, protein is good.

Anyways, apparently our church paid quite a bit of money for the John maxwell leadership conference - MAXIMUM Impact. I do urge everyone to go. I like to think of it as 25 dollars spent on lunch, and you get a whole day's worth of speaking by really good speakers ( the writer notes the redundant sentence but failed to come up with better words). According to a source, conferences like these usually cost about 180 to 200 dollars. And these people are literally as famous as they sound. Except maybe not as famous as luminaries like Ronald Macdonald and Colonel Sanders of KFC fame. So if you're interested, do seek out the table outside church on sunday where very beautiful people will be waiting to sign you up. Of course, the organizers are thinking of having an after party, which will probably be at murdoch lecture theatre at 5.

And now for the serious matter of refreshments. This week, our theme will be food that you can cook, Already, thousands are marveling at the originality of the theme. Yes, you read it right the first time, its food you can cook. Remember friends, bring some food, if not we will go hungry. Aim to feed a small nation on friday, as eunice wong will be breaking fast.  (attm: jiali, this does not include your uber salty mash potato). And for all you tools who didnt click attending for merdeka day, it is on. Please show your support for the glorious nation of Malaysia. As always, there will be some "losers" who play badminton on sunday so you can join them (at 530pm) or tennis with the cooler kids (330pm) and then after basking in their loser aura, go to eunice's house, shower, and eat food while we sing favorites such as dayung sampan and we love zimbaweeeeee.

Ok peace kiwis, im out

hey guys..

how was your weekend??? busy? tiring? fun? hehe.. i know most of us will be caught up with all the exams and assignments pouring in.. but always rmb God will be our strength n our support in our times of challenges yea.. God has been so awesome in our loves that we can't forget all these yea..

just a note for u guys.. our cell is doing the 40 hr famine dis week.. we'll b starting on thurs morning 6am, and we'll break fast together on friday at 10pm after we finish word yea.. so do let me know if u're interested in joining us.. so far we have jiali, eunicewong gloria aletheia and myself fasting yea.. for the rest of u who are not, do join us by supporting all of us in prayer and by donating yea..

for those of u who are not sure why we fast, attached is a link to something that may help shed some light k? but just some simple explaination frm me..

basically fasting is denying yourself of someting (eg, food, technology) and committing that time to God in prayer and supplication. this is so we can focus ourselves on God and not on whatever fast we are doing. for this event, we are fasting for 40 hours, for the children in india. you know how they are deprived of many things like education, a roof over their head, food etc.. and what we can do to help, is to raise funds for them. and we are doing it through a fast..

if u guys have any other questions, feel free to ask me [or if u wan a famine kit] or visit world vision's 40 hour famine website yea..

changes!!!

hey guys.. change of plans for this week.. dis week.. we're starting cell early.. we'll start at 6pm, and hopefully finish by 7.30. then we will head for the place above. if u have not already guessed where it is.. it is the...

yup.. thats right.. perth airport.. we are going to send our belevod zion sup off.. for those of you who are still blur about what is happening.. basically she has some visa problems. so she will be going back to singapore first and settle everything else from there.. so.. we wanna give her a nice farewell don't we??

while we wanna give bijia a good farewell, we don't wanna compromise God's time yea.. especially worship and word. so for this week, we'll start at 6, do worship n word (without compromising it yea) and then head to the airport hopefully by 8. her flight is at 9.30. so guys.. pls pls do come on time ok? since we are running on a tight schedule.. we dun wanna miss sending bijia off, but even more importantly, we don't wanna miss our appointment with our Heavenly Father yea.. so punctuality is very impt..

after sending her off, we wld head for refreshments (ie supper) ideas are welcomed. prob not uncle billys k? we'll leave that theme to next week. but yea. think of where u wanna eat k? den we'll head der straight aft sending bijia off. n i think. we can have a relatively early night to prepare ourselves for zionlympics (wasn't jeremy's entry[the pic in it i mean] just awesome? hahaha)

finally, the roster is out.. for worship. dis week, we'll have kenny with jeremy on guitar.. and yours truly doing word yea.. dis week is short n simple yea.. we'll do more (like more musicians, games and refreshments nxt week)
